The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016

The Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 established the regulatory framework governing the development, sale and regulation of real estate projects in India. Structured across 10 chapters and 92 sections, the Act sets out the responsibilities of promoters and real estate agents, the rights of allottees, the role of the Regulatory Authorities and Appellate Tribunals, and the framework for compliance, adjudication and penalties.

For developers, promoters, landowners, agents, homebuyers and professionals associated with the real estate industry, the Act remains the essential starting point for understanding RERA.

RERA has evolved. So has our understanding of it.

RERA Consultants LLP has worked with the real estate industry since the introduction of RERA in 2016. With a presence across the southern states, our teams work closely with developers and other stakeholders on registrations, ongoing compliance and regulatory matters.

While the Act provides the foundation, its implementation is shaped by state-specific rules, regulations, circulars, orders and regulatory practices. Working across jurisdictions gives our teams an understanding not only of the Act, but of how RERA is applied locally.
